VE Day challenges!

VE Day Challenges!

Tomorrow (Friday 8TH May 2020) marks the 75th anniversary of VE Day (Victory in Europe Day). VE Day celebrates the formal acceptance by the Allies of Germany’s surrender of its armed forces during World War 2 on the 8TH May 1945.

In order to commemorate the victory and pay tribute to all the lives lost we would like to set a few challenges to complete:

  • When the end of the war was announced, there were street parties held in celebration. Design your own party decorations. These may include bunting, flags, posters etc.
  • The British Government awarded medals for those who participated in WW2. Design your own badge for a British Soldier. Think carefully about the shape of the medal and the art work you decide to place on it. Can you give reasons for your choice?
  • In order to celebrate all things British. Can you create a ‘Best of Britain’ poster? You may sketch pictures like things such as the Queen, cups of tea, fish and chips!
  • Create a fact sheet about VE Day. When was it? Why? Who and which countries were involved? Why do we celebrate it today?

Email you pictures of your work to me

  1. These are such great ideas Miss Cooke! We are going to have a VE garden party tomorrow with a traditional English afternoon tea! I will challenge my boys to make some decorations and posters. We plan to listen to music from the 1940s and maybe do some swing dance too!
